Doreen, 32, M.D. in unhappy marriage with 2 little boys was referred to me for a past life regression by a friend who said, “Hi Orly. Doreen is my best friend and a fascinating woman. “Well” I said, “Aren’t we all fascinating?” “You’ll see” my friend replied .
Doreen felt alone. Her husband was an officer in the air force, doing boring office work and at home, did nothing but watch TV and drink beer. She told me she had three lovers since she was married, trying to fill this void. She thinks her husband knows but doesn’t care. They had been to a marriage counseling but things didn’t change much. “So what do you want?” I asked. “I need to figure out my life. It’s not working.” She replied. “Do you love him?” I wondered. “I don’t know any more” She said sadly.
“I would like to remind you that Past Life Regression is like looking at an old photo album. I can’t make the decision for you. It’s always up to you since you are the only expert on your life. My job is to be the tour guide on the sight seeing called “Doreen’s past life.” I explained. “You’re right” she agreed. “What’s now?” she asked. “Now I would like you to try and put it into a question form.” “What?” She wondered.
“I mean, put the issue you came here for, in a question form that we can send to your “computer” so it will show us the most appropriate “file” regarding this matter.” I explained. “How about, should I stay with him?” She replied. “Let’s go for a hypnotherapy adventure!” I summarized.
As I started to hypnotize her she began laughing. “Hey, I’m black! And this raffia skirt, tickles me. We make it of some leaves, coconut or something….” she explained. “Where are we? And how old are you?” I asked my hypnotized client. “I’m 8 and it’s a beautiful tropical island. Palms and coconut trees. The village is right here. Little huts made of mud.” she described. “O.K.” I interrupted this pastoral description, bearing in mind the purpose of our past life session”. And what exactly are you doing?” “I’m helping the women.”
“Where are the men?” I wondered.”They are gone. I think they went hunting. Yes. And we’re cleaning around and taking care of the youngsters.” She told me. “What happens next?” “I’m hiking up this trail in the forest. It’s so beautiful! Lots of shapes and green bushes and trees, it’s pretty! love it here!” I let her enjoy the experience for a while. “Oh, and here’s the waterfall!” She got all excited. “Oh Oh. I’m scared. My heart is pounding!” She changed all of a sudden. “What is it? You don’t have to take this path, if you don’t like it, you know. It’s just an old past life story” I calmed her down. “Yes I know” she replied “But I want to”. “All right”. I agreed.
What happens next?” I inquired. “There are 4 black men coming towards me!” She panicked. “You’re black too, remember?” I reminded her. “But they are taller and thinner than us. It’s the other tribe!” She screamed. “So?” I asked. “You see, I’m not supposed to go beyond this point. The waterfall, I mean. It’s their territory!” She was terrified. “Just relax and imagine it’s only a movie you’re watching, take a deep breath” I soothed her. She inhaled deeply and I could see her getting relaxed. “O.K. this is better.”
“They pick me up and take me to their village. I’m screaming but it doesn’t help much. I knew I shouldn’t have gone beyond the waterfall point! I should have listened to the elderly! I’m so scared!” She told me. “What do you see?” I focused her attention off the guilt trip she was in.” It’s a beautiful totem, tall and well shaped made of some dark wood, overlooking the village. I like that!” “What else do you see?” “They are taking me to the circle. There’s a ceremony going on. They tie me to the poll. They are dancing and Singing. There’s a big pot simmering in the middle. Wow, they’re chopping my head off! That was surprising! I’m floating. I can fly above the fire and the whole village! This is amazing!” Doreen described her death.
“Can you tell me what you see?” I said curiously. “They’re cooking my body. That’s why my people kept warning me! They never said exactly what will happen if we go beyond that point, but they were very strict about it.” She replied and then kept quiet for a long time. “O.K. now that you’re out of your body, how do you summarize the past life you had just lived?” I asked. “Well, it was very simple, natural, tribal life. You can’t exist out of the community and if you don’t follow the rules, don’t live by the norms – you’re dead. Literally. I was stupid or curious or arrogant, and it cost me my life at the age of 8. I should have never gone there by myself” she said quietly.
“Now let’s leave all this behind. Take a few deep breaths and tell me how this past life information is relevant to your current life?” “Ah, it’s very simple. First, I should never be alone. And since the age of 18 I always had a boyfriend. Makes me feel safe. And secondly, if I’ll get off the normative trails of society, you know, conventions, I’ll die.” “What do you mean? Like what?” I wondered.” Like getting divorced” she replied in an instance, surprising both of us. I let her stay with this for a while. We did some clearing of the guilt, and implanted new concepts regarding freedom of choice and social norms.
“Wow, that was like a fairy tale!” She said as she opened her eyes. “Indeed” I smiled. I knew she needed some time to sort things out. A week later she called to thank me and told me she had “fired” her lover because she can be by herself now, and still feel safe. She also said she is considering filing for divorce, since she wants to move on with her life.
