People ask me: “Is it true that we reincarnate with the same group of people, over and over again? My awful mother in law? The jerk ex-husband it took me 15 years to get rid of?
How could I choose these parents who didn’t care about me? That can’t be true!” Well, the answer is: “yes.” We do hang out with the same bunch of souls. (Take it easy Joe, it will all make sense in a minute…)
When we were created at the beginning of time, we were teamed up, like classmates. “Soul group” or “soul family” are the common terms, and all the members of the group are “soul mates.” (Sorry Helen, “the one-and-only prince charming,” “my other half” theory goes out the window…)
As a “soul group,” we take most of the classes together, so the learning is more effective because we teach each other through our relationships. The next time around, like elementary school students, we move on to the second grade, let’s say in Greece. In each incarnation, the souls choose the gender, (Yes, Ken, you were once a WOMAN…) characteristics, life circumstances and other factors that will benefit them most.
For example: If practicing motherhood is your goal, you can choose to reincarnate in an Arab country, where birth control is forbidden, ending up having 10 children. Another soul who would like to work on independence may choose to be the rebellious son, having to deal with the outcome of that characteristic. A soul that needs to learn materialism (who chose to be a monk in former lives) will choose to be a patriarch in a poor village, busting his ass to provide for his family. Everything has a reason and a purpose.
We plan everything “upstairs.” Who will be our parent, how rich we’ll be, what tragedies we’ll experience, whom will be our bride or groom, etc. After laying a meticulous plan, we forget everything and get into a human body, to play the most fascinating game of all: the FREE WILL GAME.
Dé jà vu is simply a vague memory of the plan we made “upstairs.” This also explains the immediate chemistry or resentment we feel towards a total stranger. “Total stranger” indeed, one with whom we reincarnated hundreds of times before!
“So, Orly, if I get it right, I’m stuck with my bitchy wife for eternity? I didn’t mean it literally when taking my vows…and my boring job? Did I wish it upon myself? Is it my destiny?”
The answer is: Yes and no. We are exercising our free will to choose from a given number of options, that we had planned ahead, to best serve our learning. Life is all about experiencing different lessons and the best way to achieve it, is together with our “soul group.”
